What is it that carries your work?(surface pattern
Quoted text begins.Heresy!! What happened to
being true to the
material,the sacredness of
stone?The horror,the horror.;^)
End of quote.
Robin I feel the barb of Bob's arrow pierce a cheekfull of
pomopous pronouncements come from my own lip. It is
soothing accupuncture. But I would guess his aim is wider
than me.
Bob went on to ask what is the purpose of texture?
That's a good one Bob. Is this to be in College exam
essay format?
We all know how great texture is. I offer three
approaches to texture at my new fotki site.
http://public.fotki.com/abknight/
One I offer the traditional approach of Finelli of
differentiation where different qualities of material, ie
hair, fabrics, are suggested. The basic structure of this
method is leg pulling. We know it is of a piece but enjoy
the suggestions of independant parts.
Two I offer Ruekriem and Naraha using the color, value,
material texture contrasts to suggest shapes and qualites
held within a single piece of material. Rather than
Finelli's additive leg pulling we have a reductive
investigation into the allusive qualities of the material
itself and what it holds within.
Three I offer crazy Olafur Eliasson giving us a riddle of
what is it anyway?
What is it made of. The ghostliness of shine incorporated
into the most physical of barriers, a wall. Here Eliasson
creates material.
Bob, how did I do?
