alabaster clouding
Gary,
Alabaster/gypsum is very sensitive to light and water. It starts to break
down when exposed to the elements. The clouding may only be skin deep if it
hasn't been out to long.
I live on top of a gypsum mine, and learned that dumping the fresh gypsum
out on the ground for a few months is common practice to make the crushing
and cooking off of water easier. I've also been told that the translucent
orange is especially sensitive, sorry to say.
The mine does not share their gypsum with local sculptors,,,ever, sorry to
say.
