Homemade Chisels
Quoted text begins. For those of us who are not quite so metal-savvy: Would you describe
the tools you used for cutting the slot and fitting the carbide
please? And did you use any particular grade of stainless? Why
stainless rather than tool steel?
End of quote.
Hi Don,
I used a metal band saw. If I didn't have one of those available I would
use a hacksaw with an 18tooth per inch bimetal blade in it.
I work at a metal fab shop that specializes in stainless steel. Just picked
up the first piece of round bar laying on the floor and thought "This might
be OK"
One of the people that I was investigating the issue with suggested that any
type of steel or stainless that will peen over and not chip off the
hammering end would be alright.
John
