Hi and a Boulder splitting question
Jeff,
In addition to Ted and George's advice, I think you may have two problems, the
angle of the stone and the number of plugs & feathers.
If you were able to drill all around the rock, you would need double the amount
of sets.
If the surface of the rock is sloping, then you would not be able to split the
stone horizontally or vertically. Dig down all around the rock to expose a
vertical face so the plugs and feathers, drilled horizontally, have roughly
equal amount of resistance on both top and bottom.
Failing that, and I don't fully appreciate your physical situation or time
constraints, build a big fire on top and around the rock to bake it all the way
through and quench it with a large volume of water, hopefully it will crack
somewhere so can get some purchase on it. Maybe this could be used for the
ceremony George recommended.
Regards,
Simon
