saw blades

Norman,
The speed ratings are upper limits, given to reduce the danger of the
blade flying apart. There was a thread some months ago about
blade-shrapnel near-misses that is worth searching the archives for. I
can't remember who it was, but somebody had a harrowing tale of a blade
segment hitting hiim in the chest, and being saved by the fact that it
was winter - his heavy clothes stopping it.
I generally run a blade as slow as it will go without being stopped by
contact with the stone. Less blade wear, less heat, less danger, better
cutting, more accurate cutting. You don't have to get it done fast.
