Vast Blue Jade Outcrops
A huge source of Jade has been found recently in
Guatemala. It is thought to be the lost source of Olmec
jade. Pack your chisels and update your passports!
Hi Bill,
A relative of mine was in the Dominican Republic a couple of years ago.
They have a gem called Larimar. Beautiful stone. Do a Google, you'll find
it. Looks very similar to one of the closeups on one of the links you
posted. From what I've been able to look up the Larimar is about a 5 on the
Mohs hardness scale. I would love to know what this blue jadeite is rated
at. They haven't quoted a hardness level on the links that you posted. It
should come up at about a 6.5 or a 7 if it is real jadeite.
The Larimar was pretty expensive and I didn't get my relative to buy any for
me. I'm hesitant to ask people to buy stone for me when they are not sure
of what they are buying or looking for.
Jade is great carving and I'd love to get my hands on a piece of this stuff
just to see what it's like.
Thanks for the links
John
Thinking of a trip to Guatemala.
