Quoted text begins.that was a way interesting site. About turning stone on a lathe,
how is the stone is attached to the face plate?
What are the typical rpm are for initial
turning when you have to knock of irregularities? Simon's homemade lathe,
wish one could see more of how the axles were
mounted.
End of quote.
Hi Norman,
Thank you, It's lots of fun...... One needs the base of the
stone flat when mounting it so as to get close as possible to balanced in
the lateral. I use epoxy to adhere the stone to a wooden block that's
screwed to the face plate and then take the rough down with a gizmo made to
hold an angle grinder. See
Once I have it roughed and cos' I have a DC drive, about 60/100 rpm works
to get to the next stage.
Simon loves to 'show & tell' I'm sure that he would take a couple of
photos to show how the rig is held if you would like to see.
How about it Simon? The site could do with a little more on your own stone
lathe. Bill Woodard
