beginner in need of advice :)
Camilla,
Welcome to the list!
Learning to carve with a group of other beginners is the best way to start.
My first class was great fun.
I like to pass on basic thoughts to someone such as yourself.
Keep your design simple.
Keep you chisels sharpe.
Use a hammer that is comfortable to you. 1.5lbs is plenty heavy to carve
stone.
Use the whole stone, roll it around as you work, so you get a sense of what
you can do with it.
Be open to changing your design as you go. After all it's a learning stone.
Lastly, some times, you just have to hit it harder then you think!
Best of carving to you.
George Graham
