Pneumatic tires on hydraulic lift table
I often use a hyrdaulic lift table (the Harbor Freight 1100 lb. capacity model)
for a carving table (what Simon calls a "banker", I think). It is handy because I can raise and lower the working height based on the size of the piece, and it is easy to get heavy pieces onto the table. But I carve on gravel, and the table's casters travel with great difficulty on gravel, making mobility a real pain, especially when I have a piece on the table.
I was about to order 10" pneumatic tires to replace the casters, but a
carving friend thought that the pneumatic tires might have too much "give"
to them, so that it would decrease the power of the hammer/chisel strike,
which he thought would be important in carving hard rock. Another carving friend thought the tires would give "bounce-back vibration" while carving with a pneumatic chisel, making it difficult to control the chisel.
Do any of you have experience with or thoughts on that issue?
Thanks,
Bill Weissinger
