Pneumatic tires on hydraulic lift table
Bill,
Try pushing hard on the side of your car. How much can you horizontally
move the body of the car? That table is probably fairly heavy, right?
And the stone you would place on it would be also, I expect. So it
comes down to how much of a deflection moment you would be imparting to
the stone in a horizontal direction. My guess is it would not be
enough to seriously deflect the rigidity of the tires, especially if you
kept them inflated very hard, with the blows of an air hammer. Small
hammers run so fast that they are more like vibrators. Hand hammer
blows might cause more deflection, but with the total weight of the
stone/table unit, I don't think you would notice it. You could always
deflate the tires to carve, and pump them back up to move the rig.
Might damage the tires though.
Have you thought of laying down plywood on the gravel for a path? Or
maybe those office chair carpet protectors?
