George,
I am a weekend warrior sculptor. It is my major passion these days.
Beware Norman... I used to spend my weekends climbing and skiing and
biking and kayaking. Now I sneak off to "make gravel", as a friend
says. I mostly do abstract pieces in the indoor size range, but also
have a series of torso fragments that are derived from river tumbled
basalt cobbles that I find east of the Cascades. The torso is already
there, of course. I just need to highlight what I find and stick it on
a base. Ironically, the bigger my equipment has gotten the smaller my
pieces have gone, mainly because making the sculpture is easy compared
to moving it around for shows, etc.
Many of my concepts work well in the 100-200 lb range, but could also
work as well in the human scale range. Eventually I hope to do more
large pieces. In the meantime I do share my studio with one other
person, and hope to add others in the future. My studio is scheduled
for redevelopment in a year, so am not sure where I will go next.
