Good eyes Shawn,

The toothed track is for traction. There is a whole set of bearings
called "cam followers" that are positioned both vertically and
horizontally to keep the saw head within pretty tight tolerances.
Unfortunately, the wall saw manufacturer GDM Walcutt, doesn't really
have a website that tells you anything about their product. You can
call them (Goleta, CA) and purchase an owners manual (mine is a model
30H) to find out about the details of what makes up the core of my saw.

I will put together some drawings, but I am neither an engineer nor a
draftsman, so what you will get is more conceptual than detail.
