workshop near Athens, GA USA
Hello Stone Listers,
I am a regular lurker on the group but have been pounding away at stone
for about 5 years or so. I want to share with you all a two-day stone
carving workshop I am organizing here near Athens, GA. Fellow
stonelister John Van Camp will be demonstrating and there will be
individual guidance by a stone sculpture professor emeritus of the
University of Georgia. Many of you may have guessed, but I know
firsthand that John is an excellent teacher both in demonstrating and
cultivating individual ability. In addition to our famous personages, I
will be giving some brief talks and a graduate student from the
Univerisity in stone sculpture will be demonstrating. To date at least
one other stonelister is signed up to attend (Dr. Gary Grossman).
We will all be working on Texas limestone, as this workshop is geared
for all levels of carvers, and limestone seems to be a very workable
stone for beginners and advanced persons alike. For those who have
tools, they are welcome to bring them along as power and air will be
available. Additionally, I am providing an assortment of my own
hand-wrought carving tools for those who are totally new, and others
will have tools to help us along. The dates are June 11-12. We have
set the minimum number at 10 and capped attendance to 20 registrants.
Our original registration deadline was set for April 29, but there is
some flexibility in that date if we can get the minimum number to make
it a go.
My hope is that this will be a fun, ongoing event for people in the area
to get together and talk/do stone. If you are interested, please
contact me directly at jviii@------------- and I will forward you a
registration packet.
Regards,
Joe Velasquez, III
