Edie, did you (or any of you others) make it to DC to see the Noguchi
exhibit? I finally took some time and went to see it. I've always
associated his name largely with the interlocking plates of stone, but
he did so much more. I looked at all the pieces first, to see what I
thought they were about, and then I picked up a pamphlet. At first
nothing really hit me, except obvious things like the Lynching, but his
Lunar series in magnesite cement left me feeling very optimistic. I met
a woman while looking at the Light Sculptures (rice paper lanterns,
akari). She informed me you could get those at Target, and that he
probably copied them from there. She was not to be dissuaded. It wasn't
until I pointed out the years that he worked that she figured it was
the other way around. Seems she knew as little about him as I did.
