Diebenkorn Chat!
One of my favorites is "Those who believe they can and those who believe
they can't are both right".
One of my mentors had lost all the fingers on one hand to a shipyard jointer
early in life.He went on to be an accomplished machinist, boatbuilder and
planemaker among other things.
He made and modified bamboo fly rods and was quite an avid fly fisherman
himself. The fact that he couldn't use much of the things he made for others
didn't seem to phase him at all.Communication and focus were key to what he
did.
He used to tell me that "There is always a million reasons why you shouldn't
do something, all you have to do is find one reason to do it and follow
that. The magic is in the doing not the thinking."
He also suggested that I slow down and "Enjoy the ride".He felt that many
times the journey taught you far more than the arrival.
The world is full of stone ,wood and metal.I'm sure if you botch that piece
we can find a suitable replacement.Give it the respect it deserves but also
stay true to what your vision is.
That picture behind your eyes and the process of achieving it is really what
it's all about.
Stay in the moment.
