relief carving
The most important thing I found while doing reliefs is to walk
away every couple of hours. Then come back and look at the
piece for 5 minutes, from a distance, before continuing.
I find that I start getting caught up in the detail, and it
helps to look at the whole piece often.
I also find that it helps to have a light diagonally overhead to
bring out the shadows. Then, while looking at it, try to see
what visual tricks the shadows play.
