Subject: relief carving

A couple years ago I did 13 relief panels for a high school gymnasium. Each
panel was 2' x 2' x 5", relief was about 1-1/4" as I recall. They were in
Indiana limestone.

I have a lot of pix at http://stonecarver.com/lab-school.html including
some progress photos. Click each photo to see a higher res version. As
discussed, I first sunk the background, then cut the stone to flat planes
of the different layers. The backgrounds were angled to create perspective,
so I then cut those angles.
