Pedestals for sculpture
Quoted text begins.M.D.F is a handy material, but remember to mask up when machining it as
the
dust is very dangerous. It also requires a special primer (quite
expensive)
before painting it otherwise the paint will drop off. Keying it by sanding
does not work well.
End of quote.
Don't know about Austrailian MDF but the US MDF is unsuitable for outdoor
use and use in any wet environment.
As far as painted surfaces go,paper faced plywood is an excellent choice and
is used as exterior trim on houses and even signs here.It takes and holds
paint very well.

PS-MDF is also refered to as "Termite barf" by most cabinet makers here.
