Pedestals for sculpture
Quoted text begins.RE: "I'm a little puzzled why plywood .... almost nobody in Australia

End of quote.
Clive,
For what its worth, the High Museum and other local museums do use MDF
for their pedestals nowadays, but then they always have a crew to install
and move their display materials . . .
I can't answer for anybody else, but though MDF does make a fine smooth
surface, it is also very heavy for one person to manhandle when building
and setting up exhibits, etc. which is why the one pedestal I have made
from MDF is always at the back of the storage space and rarely gets used.
If I was a bigger, younger man or could afford a full-time helper then
perhaps I would use MDF more.
Good Carving to You,
Don
