Barry X Ball,
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with the group! It's great to
hear directly from the artist who's work sparked so much free flowing
debate.
I'm instinctively a subtractive sculptor. I start with , usually, a pretty
clear idea of what I'm doing and then let the process of direct carving
clarify what I end up with. My question to you is, how does someone like me
make use of the digital technology that you have mastered? Are my methods
fundamentally at odds with the process you promote?
I guess the next logical question stems from what I understand about the
process, which is that cnc machine's can be made to do free form , abstract,
organic, figurative sculpture etc. Have you gained or lost any spontaneity?
How does the digital equipment compare with the all my hand tools,
regarding speed and efficiency?
I'm not a purists about using hand tools. Hand , electric, and air tools
clutter my studio. What you are doing has really made me think about the
future and I value what you have to say.
Thanks,
George Graham
