End of quote.
A friend of mine does this (makes money with it too) by cutting out
animals, Celtic knots, runes, out of rubber monument sandblasting
resist, and sandblasting the patterns into smooth river rocks. It works
really well. He started out painting the patterns with hot melt glue,
which works, but is very imprecise. The rubber monument stencil sheet
is the way to go, if you have access to a sandblaster.
Others may know more about this, but I don't think acid would do it, as
granite is not carbonaceous like limestone.
