Granite Etching

There are some machines (computer driven) that are doing this
work. Saw some at a show in Riudoso that was black etching on
white marble. Actually looked like a photo engraving process.
Then at a stone expo, there were engraving machines doing the
work on polished black granite. the picture was shades of gray,
and real impressive as to detail. They could scan a photo in
and duplicate it on the stone perfectly. Then there are the
water jet machines-- capable of exquisite inlay work. However
any of these machines will set you back a few bucks, so Bill's
suggestion about sandblast etching might be the way to go. Only
acid that will etch granite is hydrofluric (same stuff they
frost glass with) handle with care if you choose to use it
Real nasty stuff.
