Granite Etching
I talked to a friend just yesterday who is going about setting up a small
business that's built around etching design onto plaques of stone and glass.
There are printing techniques done by using light sensitive stencil that
will pick up very fine detail from photographs that is applied to the stone
and etched with a small sandblaster.
This person has many years in the printing business, so his background in
layout and design are perfect for small personalized jobs.
The monument , sign and printing industry are definitely overlapping when it
comes to etching , engraving and transferring designs. I gather that the
initial cost for the first stencil is a couple of hundred buck, after which
the cost drops dramatically. If you are using the same design many times ,
you could start making money pretty fast.
I'm going back to the white room filled with the white boxes now. Next
project is to start padding the walls!
