Simon,
I've got some information for you about stone picks. I'll just write it as
it is written and leave the translations to you.
The first catalog is from 1985. Titled , Handelskatalog, bavaria
Steinmetzwerkzeuge GMBH. Next is an address, I assume: Deschaftsfuhrer E
Stogbauer, 8901 Konigsbrunn Schwabenstrabe 15, Postfach 1208. Telefon
08231/2263 und 5063.
This catalog has three kinds of axes for chopping stone. The ax with no
teeth, just a clean cutting edge is called Ausfuhrung S/S. The next has very
stout teeth and is labled Ausfuhrung S/Z, and the tool with very long,
sharp teeth is Ausfuhrung Z/Z.
The page is titled Stahl-werkezeuge fur Marmor und mittelhartem Gestein.
The other catalog is Werkzeug-Katalog Nr. 11/78. Hartmatall-Werkzeuge fur
Hand-und PreBluftbetrieb Stahlwerkzeuge. Geier Produktions GMBH, Werrkzeuge
fuer die Steinindustrie Schwabenstr. 15 8901 Konigsbrunn. Telefon
o8231/2263:5063. This catalog has an amazing variety of bushhammer heads and
one very clear picture of a stone pick. Everything in this section starts
with Dismont and then the name Zweispitzhammer. A description follows,
beidseitig mit HM-Spitzen ca. 800g There are also 3 chopping axes, a little
different style, but all labled Ausfuhrung. These tools look absolutely
lethal and very old-fashioned. The design really hasn't changed, except for
being better steel and having carbide inserts, for the last 1000 years, I'll
bet.
I hope you can translate the names and pass it on. I'm very curious to know.
Good luck,
George Graham
