Quoted text begins.I am planning to hang a stainless steel hood on a ¾" granite backsplash. Any
input on how best to secure a wood block to the granite and also any tips on
drill bits for drilling into the granite to install togglebolts?

First of all- how is the backsplash anchored to the wall? If it's a typical
installation, it might just be glued with construction adhesive, and even
if the hood doesn't way much, the leverage of something hanging out could
put more stress than the adhesive can handle. (or, very likely, the
adhesive attaches to drywall, and the skin of the drywall will tear off).
