Stunning Stone Link
"I always enjoy looking outside
my box of rocks", George Graham wrote.
Interesting, George. I like it! I think Maeda's work is
all about showing "here is the box; and here is OUTSIDE
the box". It is work about imagination. About the ideal
and the "box" it comes in, if that makes sense. It is
about the ideal, and all the stuff it takes to support
that ideal, the roughage etc.
I don't have the vocabulary to say it. It is a mind/body
duality thing. It is sublime. The mind ranging thoughout
its ethereal landscape of shape and being. Then this
shadow spirit breathing shape into stone.
I suppose the arts are always an interface between mind
and substance. Maeda makes theater of this divide. The
spectacle of the mental construct meeting raw material.
What a great show!
