cutting slate
Karen, I don't think that a toothed carbide blade is a good
blade for stone. Pick up a fiber blade-- they are only a couple
of bucks-- and try that. Hard stone can wear one down fairly
quick, softer stone they will last forever.
By the way, I have a piece of stone here that I was told was
slate--and it does look very much like slate but with a lot of
"sparkly" stuff in it. Harder than the dickens, and some of the
sandstones, like the PA blue-green also have a slate like
appearence.
