hi gary - thank you (and also sue) for your suggestions about working
with alabaster - do you think i could use my small cuturi air hammer
and chisels, and marble rasps, or do i need to find wood rasps, as sue
has suggested? i'm not familiar with the specific alabaster you're
referring to, but i'm hoping i'll find beautiful specimens in volterra,
given that the area is renowned for their alabaster mines and the
"laboratory" i'll be working in owns their own alabaster mine - should
be great fun ... edie

Quoted text begins.... I find that alabaster fractures quite a bit so I don't like to use
hammer and chisel but others on the list have told me I'm crazy ...
There is
a beautiful translucent Italian alabaster but I assume that you already
know about that ...
End of quote.
