Scroll Saw Blades to Cut Stone?
Hi!
It's not the kind of wire saw I think you are thinking about - the ones
they use in quarrys. This is a benchtop saw. Similar to a scroll saw or
band saw but it uses a diamond coated wire to cut instead of a blade.
And it is omnidirectional
(cut in any direction). They are mainly designed for glass cutting but
will also cut tile, stone, etc... The only problem is the throat depth
(how thick a piece you can cut). Since they are designed to mainly cut
glass I understand the reason for there not being a model with a larger
throat. Mot really a demand for it.
Anyway, I checked out the Jeweler's saw and Coping saw but that's not
really what I am looking for.
I guess I will just buy a bunch of cheap scroll saw blades. They break
easy, but are really cheap.
James

Hello James,
Welcome to the list. Your mixture sounds like a fun, quick medium to
work
with, and always flawless indeed. I have looked at some wire saw
set-ups,
they sure are expensive. Some of the wire costs $180/ft! If I where
doing
this, I think I would place some gringo or cast blocks in my molds
during
the pour for wild shapes. Why cut?
Have a good day, daed
Hi! My name is James. I am in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and I have
just started sculpting. I am using my own gypsum formula and casting
blocks (in a mold box) for sculpting. The material is maybe 2 or 3 times
harder than regular gypsum. It is marbled like marble and even has the
finished feel of marble. The blocks are approximately 2" thick and the
length and width vary depending on my requirements I have come across a
problem that I am hoping someone can assist me with. I need to cut
(straight and curved cuts) the stone from time-to-time to get the
appropriate size pieces that I need for my sculptures. I have neen using
a "scroll saw" with 15TPI blades. They cut fine but break often. So I am
hoping someone can suggest a better choice of scroll saw blades that
will perform better for my purposes. Any suggestions?
James
