Diletante #13 (aka Bill)

What number dilettante am I? Realizing that you have already claimed the
'best' number for yourself!

Loved the piece by Michio FUKUOKA (#25) ? wish the image was not so dark.

Also liked the concrete(?) piece #17and the black granite piece by Shiro
Hayami.

Is #20 concrete too? ? the image is small and I'd really like to see a
detail shot of the bunker-like structure at the top.

I would like to pass on a site from a Finnish sculpture association:

http://www.artists.fi/sculptors/members.shtml

The page is the listing of members in alphabetical order ? I haven't gone
to the trouble of counting them, but there are quite a few.
Though perhaps only 20% of the members work in stone (mostly granite, but
some soapstone), the amount of top-notch work displayed is astounding.
Alas, though I was only able to see a a very few of these folks' works
'in the flesh' earlier in the spring when I visited Finland for a brief
3-week teaching stint, I was very happy to find this association's web
site.

Here are some sculptors from the index that I particulary found
interesting (most of these work in stone, although I have added a couple
who work in other materials) Many of the sculptors shown on the index
also have their own website, but beware -- it can become very addictive
to peruse the multitudes of links:

(compare to Michio FUKUOKA #25 above)

http://www.artists.fi/sculptors/merikanto/index.htm

http://www.artists.fi/sculptors/nurminen/index.htm

http://www.artists.fi/sculptors/salosmaa/index.htm
(IMHO ? this and the next couple of artists have a touch of the poetic
about them even though they don't use stone)

http://www.artists.fi/sculptors/jylha/index.htm

I could add more links, but you need to find the ones you like yourself!

Good Carving to You,
Don
