Japanese Carving Gallery
Don,
Thanks for digging through the Finnish Carvers Association
pile. That is hard work and much appreciated. I am a
veteran of a Bildhauer hunt though Bavaria with not enough
to show for it, and not that there isn't alot of great
Bavarian carving, it's just that hunting through such
broad catagories can make for many miles to cover...Nor
does this soul care to tour all the sculpture parks of the
world...
Two of the works at Ube City you mention have second
views, that I will hasten to add to the Fotki Album.
George,
thanks for your shared enthusiasm! Which large stone
pieces with small holes are you referring to?
The Uchida doubled marble piece is one I had lost track of
and am glad to have come upon it again. He really likes
to play with borders, edges and containment. I was wowed
at first by the voluptuous bubbles contrasted to the hard
edge of the block, but on second look I find it somewhat
more difficult, the play of block and interior, as though
one rather defies the other...He really got me thinking
about splitting things apart and putting them back
together, something I have yet to put into practice but
have spent much time thinking about....
Interesting that you should like the "bridge" piece. I'll
have to give it another try, having not "gotten" it first
go round! Two types of stone always throw me for a loop!
Pardon my presumption, all, I should really develop a
blog. But that would be a regular job!
