Lime moratr tech
Thanks Will,
The explaination was most appreciated. So basically this old mortar can in a
sense "unset" then. Are there any precautions to alleviate the water
penetration? Or is it normal to just constantly re-point this type of work?
I have found some references to linseed oil based jointing compounds and
sealants for masonry. I am going to give this old mortar a shot, with a
twist. I've decided to build 2 pillars with this type of mortar. After I
have them laid up I intend to rake out 1/2" of mortar and then ram them full
of sand mixed with linseed oil. I will do this with the frost walls too.
After the pillars are done I'll watch them for the next 40 years and see
what happens :)
