Soapstone dust
Yes protection is necessary if you are using hand tools as well. If
possible work out doors situated so the dust blows away from you if not
a well sealing mask is in order as well as good ventillation. - there
have been many discussions of this in this archives - bottom line -
better safe than sorry -
