Quarries in Belgium
Hi Michiel
Petit granit is not marble, although it is a fine stone for sculpture. You are talking about two different things..Black Belgium is a marble and the quarry is closed, however blocks can be found. I have found and other stone workers have confirmed it for me that it is easier to buy Belgium Back marble in Italy than to buy it in Belgium. Petit Granite which is a hard limestone can easily be found and purchased although a little pricy. Carrie de Sprimont is used to dealing with sculptors and I would recommend it to you. Just find your way to the village of Sprimont, about 20 clicks from Liege and you can't miss the quarry. There are many active quarries in the Wallone region of Belgium. I hope this was helpful to you.
