Alabama Marble?
Just a note about OLD marble. Outside of Art City in Ventura stood some very large blocks of Italian marble. I think that the history is that the went from Italy to Vietnam when the French bought them and stood for many years. Then they turned up in San Fran FOB and now sit outside in the road (or did). As Paul remarked " If you take of the outside two feet over all, there great!" So I think that even if not extracted using force they still can dry out to the point where carving is hell. Rockhound. When I go and get stone, I dig it out of the ground.
Are you able to tell if a stone was quarried with explosives by examining
it? If so, what do you look for? Or do you have to actually go to a quarry
and inspect their processes?
