Pitching. Cutting etc.
'Disgustingly' was the wrong word for what I meant, but I can't think of the
right word.
I was trying to describe what I see when I look at some cut stone in new
buildings here in New York. It looks as lifeless as poured concrete. And the
literature produced by the managing agents boasts about the expensive stone
they used!
They could have mixed pigments into polyurethane and let it dry, for the
same effect.
I've discovered that I can get a beautiful surface on a stone if I split it
by dropping it. Then it breaks exactly where it 'wants' to (no good if you're
trying to build something useful).
I'm using the exposed interiors of granitic rocks in some of my sculpture
now. The side which was rubbed by the glacier, tumbled by meltwater, burnt by
the acidity of the soil, and then oxidized by sun air and rain is concealed.
