Inexpensive Air Compressors
I am considering an upright tank between 15 ro 30 gallon capacity.
Air production of 3.5 CFM @ 90 PSI to 5.7 CFM @ 90 PSI.
Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated as well as
recommended
sources for purchasing such a compressor or re-furbished compressor.

Bill Pulling
Hi Bill,
The CFM you are looking at (low end) will barely keep up with your carving
hammer, and is not near the air you will need for the other tools you
mentioned. For any sort of rotary tool, you would need about twice
that(10-12CFM) and even more for some grinders and polishers. Storage
capacity is more or less incidental compared to the CFM number as the tools
we tend to use require a continuous air supply at the operating PSI and
CFM. You don't mention what sort of budget you have, but some good used
units can be had if you watch the classified section, or equipment auctions.
