Dear Elle

Quoted text begins."If I use texture on draped (cloth) type surfaces....I leave it smooth on
some of the areas where the high lights would naturally be. I only do this

Textured areas are naturally darker than smooth areas....so I would like to
get a type of value scale going".
End of quote.
I can't say I had draped cloth in mind. I was thinking more along the lines
of an entire sculpture. My guess is that you could get yourself into more
trouble than was necessary by changing the textures. Michelangelo did it
quite successfully in "Pieta Del Duomo" if you look at all but the figure on
the right hand side (that's what not to do, that's someone else's work)
you'll see some pretty good examples.
My first thought re: drapery is that the interest is generated very much in
the forms as opposed to textures.
Good luck, regards Clive
