Pieta Del Duomo
In Howard Hibbard's book on Michelangelo and others I have read this Pieta
is considered to be unfinished by Michelangelo. Hibbard also quotes the
writings of Varsari where he talked about how Michelango attacked and
destroyed this sculpture because he was either disatified with it or the
stone itself.
I am not an art historian nor do I profess to have any experience that would
justify my own opinion, but if this is true then isn't this just a piece in
various stages of progression instead of a study in textures? Wouldn't
Michelango have finished the work with the same high polish which he used on
his other finished works such as Moses and the Pieta in St. Perter's?
