Sculpture symposium at Maroochy Botanic Gardens, Queensland
The international sculpture symposium opened at the Maroochy Bushland Botanic
Gardens yesterday, with eight sculptors engaged. They are using timber, black
Chillagoe marble, white Chillagoe marble and Helidon freestone.
It was interesting to see the range of roughing-out tools. A few sculptors were
using 9-inch and 4-inch flush-mounted blades to cut a flat face into the marble.
One sculptor core-drilled a series of holes in white marble, joined them with a
9-inch saw cut, then split the block off with a fine degree of accuracy using
plugs & feathers.

Hoping to visit the gardens again soon, so I can update the views for you all.
