Hi Daed,

"Pamela Soldwedel's sculptures have evolved into fresh new dimensions with
her mixed media abstractions...joinings of layered stone and metal,
plastics, glass and wood bring a multitude of expressions to her creations"
That is the description under her work Echo so it seems she layers stone and
metals and then carves. I am not sure how one would use the hot metal into
curves like that, maybe into more angular spaces where the metal can be
contained to cool. I did some research when I first discovered her work on
metal inlay and my question was always...how does she control the metal in
those fluid curves?, It would be interesting to find a way to sandwich the
metal only on the outer parts so there is not too much waste, maybe that is
what she does.
Maybe Don Dougan knows the answer, he uses metals a lot and he seems to
know what he is doing.
I love her work, it is so inspiring. Those curves so feminine, insinuating
and flowing. She is so wonderfully organic, I find that very attractive. I
see that in inlay she uses mostly aluminum, why do you think that is?
malleability as you said, price, color? Do you sand aluminum and other
metals with the same materials as the stone or the treatment should be
different and if it is how to achieve that flow from material to material?
Too many questions. Maybe someone has a workshop for inlay of metals on
stone, anybody?
Good carving and hope to see your work Daed, I love angular too....it is
more aggressive, bold and many times even disturbing in a good way........
