Writing an artist's statement
Greetings to all,
I have been carving stone for quite some time now, but purely for my own
enjoyment and to create works of beauty to give as gifts to people I
care about. Recently, though, I yielded to the urgings of a local
gallery owner and agreed to let him carry some of my pieces. Since
dropping off some of my beloved "babies" at the gallery, the gallery
owner has asked me to write up an artist's statement to accompany my
work. I have never written an artist's statement and would like to know
what others on the list have done, what guidelines they follow, and what
length is appropriate. Any suggestions? What is the real purpose of
the artist's statement? =20
Thanks,
Tim Bunton
