Subject:
flue liners
I'm weighing in with the others who have expressed a conviction that removal
of the old flue is unnecessary. We have done several jobs like this where
the new SS liner (usually, btw, square or rectangular) is simply inserted
into the old existing flue and any space filled with non-shrink grout, or a
cementitious grout that has good flow properties so that all the voids are
filled. I don't know enough to analyze the fluid dynamics of a round versus
square steel tube, but my guess is that an eight inch square tube will be
more than adequate for ventilation purposes. Besides, how do you get inside
a 15' length of flue liner from top to bottom to make the initial relief
cut?
Good Luck,
chaz
