Subject:
flue liners
Quoted text begins.Besides, how do you get inside
a 15' length of flue liner from top to bottom to make the initial relief
cut?
End of quote.
A local chimney sweep / chimney repair company owner I know does SS liner
installations all over the DC Metro area. I was picking his brain about the
process one time, and the subject of removing old liners came up. He told me
they use something like a long threaded pole with a hammerlike head sticking
out at a right angle. Sections of rod are threaded together until the
business end is at the lowest liner section, then the whole thing is rotated
with a low rpm heavy duty drill, while moving it around while on top of the
chimney. It busts up the liner & the peices fall through the damper.
Sections of threaded rod are removed as they work up the flue, busting &
busting as they go. One heck of a messy operation as I understand it.
