For Oscar B. & comment on bases
Sorry Oscar I didn't save your email addy so this is going to the whole
list. Sorry for being spammy but maybe we can have a discussion on
bases - should they be part of the work or should they be so different
so that they only set off the work, or should they be both depending on
the work <g >.
Hi Oscar, thanks for the comments, all of which ring true to me. I
guess that I keep calling myself a new carver because I've been doing
this for, hmmm maybe three years now but have had no formal training.
Maybe I should call myself an "outsider" sculptor <g >. As far as bases
go, yes I think that they are a part of the sculpture and with proper
care can do much for the overall aesthetic of the piece. I have to
admit that I don't really like the "popsicle" look of a lot of my pieces
and having a base that links with the sculpture seems to reduce that
effect. Just some thoughts. atb, g2
