profile carving
I'm not sure I understand Giovanni's description, but if I do I think
it is basically what wood carvers do. If you look at any of the wood
carving magazines (Barnes and Noble and Borders usually have several)
they offer templates; also there are loads of books full and the wood
carving supply houses sell them. They paste the drawings on the sides
of the block of wood, saw around to the shape, and then round the
corners and do the detail carving to finish the pieces.
