profile carving
Hello all listers,
I found John Fisher, in the video that John Halter sent a link about
http://www.deanmars.com/FirstPlaceNationalTVAward.htm. >
described this "profile carving" quite well. Indeed, I have started to
carve this way. And I do find the chips fly away from me!!
However, I notice that I also tend to slide back into carving while "looking
in front of the chisel" quite easily. Possibly the difference is this thing
about the profile of the piece as a whole as opposed to carving the details
(which Giovanni mentions in his second email). I know in my art work
generally, I have a tendency to slip into detail work before the essential
forms, etc. are established, and this may be an indication of that trait of
mine.
In any case, this profile carving is well worth checking out with your
chisel, even if you dont stay with it all the time.
Hope this is of interest to some.
Thanks, Giovanni, for your initial words about this.
Oscar
