When I was first working in Italy, the main carver I worked with
would do that. When tourists would poke their heads in the door, he'd
let them stand there and look for a minute or two, and then the chips
would start flying towards the door. No apparent change in what he
was doing, just that the chips flew in that direction.
He was good. :-)
