introducing myself
.......the how to's and whys
Greetings to all on the list. I have been reading the list for a couple of
years now and always meant to contribute and now finally have been motivated
with a dual purpose to take part in discussions on art and sculpture and to
support my compatriot, Clive.
I am an art teacher at high-school, did an apprenticeship as a stonemason
(banker-work and some fixing) in Sydney sandstone many years ago, and have
been working on my art for about 30 years. I work in sandstone, bronze,
wood, mixed-media and sometimes marble. I like 'warm' materials and usually
find marble to be too 'cold' for my purposes and too heavily coded with
'spirituality' and 'classicism'.
Regarding the how to's and whys; Clive is only expressing what is popular
opinion purported by the likes of American's such as Mike Moore and many
members of the creative and performing arts over there. We in Oz generally
distrust those in power and don't hold back in criticising governments and
their policies. This is not personal. You know, just like a critique of an
artwork; step back and see it objectively.
regards John Lynch
