Subject: slip form masonry

Hello slipformers! This fellow is in a techtonic zone, I am wondering about
the details now......Slipform technique is a cost effective way to build and
it is durable. Contractors are always looking for ways to keep the ol'
pocketbook in check, very understandable. Stone masons are pricey, trust me
;)

I forget the fellows name that started this thread. I hope he returns and
lets out some details. I am concerned. He evidently is facing the exposed
potion of the wall with slipformed stone backed by steel reinforced
concrete. I am wondering if he attached ties to the rod extending into the
stone portion or possibly some type of nylon webbing to achieve integrity.
Believe it or not the weakness in this wall is at the stone/concrete
interface. If this is not tied properly a techtonic event may calve off the
stone face if it lacks mechanical ties to the rod lattice in the concrete
wythe. Another of my concerns is the pace of the work, if you stopped the
wall at any time there are surely horizontal cold joints. Rod or not it will
plop especially if it is load bearing during a earthquake. I hope you have
this wall segmented in 20' foot sections with horse cocks for thermal
expansion also, or it is doomed.

"this may pose more questions than answers, but I hope it furthers
the discussion.
